Key duties and Responsibilities 

Develop enterprise level cloud platform architectures for MS Azure and M365, and develop high level solution architectures for cloud-based systems.

Develop detailed architecture guidance for cloud engineers and provide impact analysis of user/stakeholder requirements.

Ensure enterprise and system solutions maintain adherence to whole-of-government standards, and provide technical guidance and input into the design and build of cloud-based systems.

Liaise with cross-functional teams including business owners, scrum masters, business analysts, developers, enterprise architects and testers to produce solutions in accordance with stakeholder requirements and project objectives.

Liaise with the department's Service Experience team, ICT Engagement and Enterprise Architecture to ensure architectural decisions incorporate user experience considerations and align to target architectures and technology.

Provide expertise and assistance in platform automation, testing, continuous integration and deployment, and promote key enterprise architecture principles and the DTA's Digital Service

Essential criteria

  1. Cloud experience: Demonstrated experience in cloud-based solution implementation with technologies including Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Service Bus and Azure API Management; Azure DevOps for code development, management, repositories, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD deployments; Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights; integrating cloud-based systems with third-party systems including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM; and Azure networking, security and identity management capabilities including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and Role Based Access Control.

  2. Cultural fit: Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams; ability to work with technical and non-technical staff at all levels; ability to collaborate and mentor team members to promote team harmony.

  3. Agile: Experience working with Agile multi-disciplinary teams to deliver secure, user friendly and reliable solutions that meet stakeholder, citizen, and business expectations; ability to pragmatically change direction and scope as new information is discovered and challenges or opportunities present themselves.

  4. Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience 5yrs+ implementing and managing cloud systems and technologies. The Cloud Architect/Engineer will liaise with cross-functional teams to develop and manage enterprise and application-level architectures for MS-Azure, and provide impact analysis and technical guidance in design and development of project work aligned with WoG Standards.

Desirable criteria

  1. Demonstrated track record of technical leadership across project and operational tasks.

  2. Demonstrated experience and understanding of cloud-based technologies and architectures.

  3. Demonstrated experience in application and integration, or infrastructure platform architecture.

  4. Minimum 3 years' experience designing and documenting architectures for large, complex enterprise systems. Experience with AWS and/or GCP is desirable but not essential.
